Prof. Japheth Kiptoon was appointed by the President of the Republic of Kenya as Chancellor of Karatina University in early 2013. He is a Professor of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Previously, he served as the Chairman of Council at Maseno University, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
He was formerly the Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University, having also been the Deputy Vice Chancellor. Prof. Kiptoon holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Nairobi. He once served as Chairman, Department of Clinical Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
