On Saturday, 22nd March, the Karatina University International Women’s Day Committee visited Githunguri Girls High School in Murang’a County to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The event, which focused on mentorship, aimed to inspire and empower students, particularly in STEM-related careers and courses. The team was led by the chairperson of the committee Prof. Juliet Macharia. Also in attendance was the Deputy County Director of Education Ms. Margaret Tipatet.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Juliet Macharia appreciated the principal for giving them the opportunity to visit and mentor the students. She also expressed her gratitude to the university management for the opportunity to celebrate and mark the day. urged students to actively engage and take advantage of the insights shared by the speakers
On the other hand, the school principal Mrs. Rahab Kibe, expressed her gratitude to Karatina University for choosing Githunguri Girls as a venue for this impactful engagement. She commended the team for their dedication to mentoring and inspiring young girls.
The mentorship session covered a wide range of topics, encouraging students to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematic. The Chief Guest, Eng. Catherine, delivered a motivational talk on career selection and personal growth, inspiring students to dream big and work hard toward their goals.

Additionally, alumni of Githunguri Girls High School attended the event and shared their first-hand experiences, serving as a source of encouragement and motivation for the students.
As part of their commitment to supporting young girls, the IWD Committee donated revision books, sanitary towels, and other hygiene products, further emphasizing the importance of education and well-being. This celebration reaffirmed Karatina University’s dedication to empowering young women and fostering interest in STEM fields, paving the way for a brighter future for aspiring female scientists and innovators
