Karatina University, through its Directorate of Community Outreach, successfully held a capacity-building workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) on Friday 23rd May, 2025. The event and notable guests such as the Court Annexed Mediation team and the Principal Magistrate of Karatina Law Courts. The workshop aimed at equipping the participants with skills and the importance of alternative methods in resolving disputes efficiently and amicably.

The ADR workshop served as a platform for the leaders to gain skills needed to apply ADR in land disputes and other community conflicts. Participants were guided through the principles and practical applications of ADR, highlighting its benefits over traditional litigation, such as being more cost-effective, timely, and preserving relationships.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Linus M. Gitonga underscored the institution’s commitment to impactful community engagement, noting that ADR’s emphasis on dialogue and mutual respect aligns with the university’s mission. He recognized the Directorate of Community Outreach for their efforts and pointed out that community engagement is a pillar of the university’s strategic goals. The VC also expressed gratitude to the judiciary for their partnership, which reinforced the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing public administration skills.
