Hiram Karanja is an early career fisheries biologist. He graduated in 2018 and joined Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) as an intern. In 2019, he was awarded a scholarship by the Belgian government to pursue a Master of Science at Ghent University. He left Ghent University in 2021 after successfully reading and defending his Masters thesis and briefly went back to KMFRI.
In 2022, he joined the Centre for Environmental Studies (CMK) at Hasselt University as a pre-doctoral fellow. His research interests are in aquatic ecosystem health, fish health, aquaculture, fish parasitology and matters blue economy.
