KARATINA UNIVERSITY CONDUCTS PEACE AND COHESION WORKSHOP FOR NATIONAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION OFFICERS (NGAOs) IN LAIKIPIA WEST

On 22nd May 2026, Karatina University, through the Directorate of Community Outreach, conducted a capacity-building workshop for National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) in Rumuruti Town, Laikipia West Sub-County, aimed at promoting harmonious coexistence through conflict resolution, good governance, and cohesion.

The workshop brought together Assistant County Commissioners (ACCs), Chiefs, and Assistant Chiefs from across the sub-county and focused on equipping participants with practical skills in conflict prevention and resolution, while strengthening their understanding of governance and national cohesion.

Speaking during the official opening of the workshop, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) of Laikipia West Sub-County, Mr. David Boen, lauded Karatina University for selecting Laikipia West as the rollout site for the initiative. He noted that the workshop was timely, especially given the occasional conflicts experienced in some parts of Laikipia.

Mr. Boen emphasized the critical role played by NGAOs in fostering peaceful coexistence among diverse communities and maintaining harmony at the grassroots level. He further called for similar engagements targeting Community Peace Ambassadors and Wazee wa Nyumba Kumi, recognizing their significant contribution to grassroots peacebuilding efforts.

During the workshop, participants were taken through various conflict prevention and resolution techniques. They were also trained on the National Values and Principles of Governance as outlined in Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya by Dr. Michael Gachahi, Chair of the National Values and Cohesion Committee at Karatina University.

Participants expressed appreciation for the knowledge and practical skills gained during the training, particularly on conflict management, governance, and cohesion. They noted that the workshop had enhanced their capacity to effectively address emerging community conflicts and promote unity within their areas of jurisdiction.

The workshop concluded with the issuance of certificates of participation by the Director of Community Outreach, Prof. Margaret Mwenje. The initiative forms part of Karatina University’s continued commitment to community engagement and capacity building aimed at fostering peaceful, cohesive, and resilient communities, especially as the country approaches the electioneering period.
