On Saturday, 29th August 2026, Karatina University, through the Directorate of Community Outreach, in collaboration with the Mama Alice Initiative, Rotary Club, Jimcab, Ankana Hospital, Equity Afya Hospital and Eye Care Hospital, conducted a free medical camp at Marire Comprehensive School in Isiolo County, reaching approximately 380 residents.

The medical camp formed part of the University’s ongoing Community Outreach and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, aimed at contributing to the health and well-being of communities while extending the University’s services beyond its immediate surroundings.
Residents received a range of free healthcare services, including general medical check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, diabetes screening, nutrition counselling, optical care, and maternal and child health services.
The Karatina University Clinic team, led by Ms. Ann Ngochi, played a key role in the exercise. The clinicians supported patient triage, medical consultations, prescription and dispensing of medicines, as well as services in the eye care section.
The outreach also provided residents with an opportunity to receive preventive health information and advice on matters affecting their well-being. Those who required medication benefited from the availability of prescribed medicines, while community members requiring optical support received eyeglasses free of charge.

The medical camp demonstrated the value of partnerships in addressing community needs. Through collaboration with healthcare institutions, organisations and other stakeholders, Karatina University was able to bring together expertise and resources to provide accessible healthcare services to the community.

As part of its broader Community Outreach agenda, Karatina University continues to seek meaningful ways of using its expertise, resources and partnerships to contribute to society.
