KARATINA UNIVERSITY HOSTS THE 4TH SPAS INNOVATION WEEK 2026

Karatina University, through the School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS), successfully hosted the 4th SPAS Innovation Week – Innovation Competition 2026 on 23rd April 2026. The event brought together students, faculty, and innovation stakeholders in a dynamic showcase of creativity, research, and entrepreneurial thinking. The event was held under the theme “Advancing Entrepreneurial Science for Sustainability Solutions and Job Creation,” the competition provided a platform for participants to present innovative ideas addressing real-world challenges across diverse sectors.

The event was officially opened by the Dean School of Agriculture and Biotechnology Dr. Dennis Maina, who emphasized the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning in the innovation journey. In his remarks, he urged innovators to actively seek guidance and tap into available institutional frameworks to refine, protect, and scale their ideas.

A key highlight of the event was the strong demonstration of student-led innovations, reflecting both scientific rigor and practical relevance. Participants showcased solutions aligned with sustainability, technological advancement, and economic empowerment—reinforcing the University’s commitment to nurturing problem-solvers and job creators.

The University’s Technology Transfer Office (TTO) was highlighted as a critical support system for innovators. The office plays a pivotal role in facilitating the commercialization of research outputs by supporting intellectual property protection, product development, and linkages with industry. Through this framework, Karatina University continues to bridge the gap between research, innovation, and market application.

In recognition of their efforts, all participants were awarded certificates of participation, while the top-performing teams received cash tokens for their outstanding innovations. This recognition serves to motivate continued creativity and excellence among students.
