On 14th May 2026, the School of Business, Department of Human Resource Development organized an educational field trip to Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company and Zetech University as part of the University’s commitment to experiential learning and industry exposure. The visit brought together 64 students pursuing Human Resource Management who were accompanied by Dr. Stephen Macharia, Dr. Gladys Mathenge, Dr. Edward Mburu and Ms. Ruth Kendagor.
At the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company’s Ngethu Water Treatment Works in Thika, the students learnt about the process of water collection and gained insights into the company’s operations, as well as the skills required to excel in the workplace.

In line with Karatina University’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the University’s Green Concept initiative, the University Tree Nursery donated 50 tree seedlings to support environmental conservation efforts.
The students later visited Zetech University where they were hosted by Karatina University alumna Dr. Beauttah Mwangi, the current Mang’u Campus Director. He engaged the students in a session on “The Role of the Human Resource Profession in “Enhancing Production and Operations for Organizational Performance,” offering practical industry perspectives that complemented classroom learning.

The engagement also served as a collaborative academic exercise that strengthened institutional relations between Karatina University, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company and Zetech University while creating opportunities for academic and professional growth.
The students appreciated the University Management for providing them with an opportunity to gain practical industry exposure, enhance their learning experience, and interact with professionals in the field.
