Karatina University has once again demonstrated its excellence in innovation and cybersecurity after securing 3rd place at the prestigious Connected Africa Summit 2026 Capture the Flag (CTF) Contest.
The competition, which brought together top universities across the region, featured an intensive online cybersecurity hackathon held from 26thto 27th April 2026. The Karatina University team showcased exceptional technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving ability, emerging among the top three out of fifteen competing institutions.

The winning team comprised third- and fourth-year students pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Information Technology and Computer Science:
Following their outstanding performance, the team was invited to the Summit Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony held on 30th April 2026 in Nairobi, which was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Hon. William Kabogo, and the Romanian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Gențiana Șerbu. During the ceremony, the team received certificates of recognition and a cash award of USD 500.

This achievement highlights Karatina University’s commitment to excellence in training, research, and innovation—particularly in the field of computing.
