Team Tax Consultants from Karatina University, led by Mary Kabura, a 4th-year Bachelor of Economics student, emerged third at the 4th KCA University Innovation Week. The other team members were Ruth Kulema (BSc Health Management Systems, 4th year), Victor Githae (BSc Computer Science, 3rd year), and Jimmy Kimunyi (BSc Computer Science, 4th year, Chuka University).
The team presented an innovation titled “Tax Literate” under the theme Innovate! Elevate! Impact!. The event, sponsored by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), brought together students from various universities to showcase creative solutions aimed at enhancing tax compliance, efficiency, and inclusivity within Kenya’s tax system. The judging panel comprised KRA officials, academicians, and tax experts from different firms, and the event was broadcast on KRA TV.
The students attributed their success to the invaluable mentorship and support they received, which helped them refine their concept and strengthen their presentation. Their achievement not only highlights their creativity and teamwork but also reflects Karatina University’s commitment to inspiring innovation, leadership, and practical solutions that address real-world challenges.
This milestone is a proud moment for the University as it continues to nurture future leaders who are shaping industries through innovation and excellence
