Karatina University hosted a team from Tharaka University on 6th August 2026 for a benchmarking visit focused on the University’s Teaching Practice placement and assessment systems. The delegation from Tharaka University, led by Dr. Kimathi Mwembu, sought to learn from Karatina University’s approaches to teaching practice placement and assessment as part of efforts to strengthen their systems and practices.
The team was received and hosted by the Dean, School of Education and Social Sciences Prof. Lucy Ndegwa, alongside the Chair of the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Media (CTM), Dr. David Mugo, and the Chair of the Department of Special Needs Education (SNE), Dr. Joyce Kinyua.
Highlights from the ongoing session
During the engagement, the two institutions shared insights and experiences on teaching practice placement and assessment, providing an opportunity for peer learning and knowledge exchange. The team also toured the Karatina University Media Laboratory, where they explored how education students integrate media concepts into teaching and learning. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase how students utilise media resources and technologies in the development of innovative teaching and learning materials.
The benchmarking visit underscores the importance of inter-university collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in teacher education. Such engagements provide institutions with opportunities to learn from one another, share best practices and strengthen systems that enhance the preparation of future educators.
