COMMISSION FOR UNIVERSITY EDUCATION AT KARU FOR SITE INSPECTION OF PROGRAMMES FOR ACCREDITATION

The Commission for University Education (CUE) will today evaluate three (3) programmes in the School of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (SNRES), the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology (SAB) and the School of Pure and Applied Sciences. These are Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management. The evaluation is being conducted in line with the Universities Act 2012, the revised University Regulations 2023, CUE Regulations and Standards for University Education among others.

Using the peer review system, CUE is inspecting resources on the ground, relevant facilities, MoUs with other institutions, information resources in the Library both print and e-resources, research, curriculum development and review and human resource, that is, qualifications for academic staff in various areas as well as those of support and technical staff. As an audit practice, the team is working based on evidence provided by the University on all these parameters.

Yesterday, the Commission evaluated courses in the School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science and Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Linus Muthuri Gitonga, said that monitoring and evaluation of processes and procedures is important because it offers an opportunity for introspection on where the University is and also reflect on areas that require improvement. He further stated that Karatina University is happy to work with CUE as partners in order to produce quality graduates with the capacity to meet the expectations of society.

“As partners, CUE will also be glad that it took part in shaping the products of Karatina University. They will be proud to spread the word of how good the product is,” he said.

The Acting Vice Chancellor gave a brief history of the University detailing its Vision, Mission, Philosophy, Core Values, Strategic Focus, staff and students populations among others.

The CUE delegation is at the University until Friday, 16th June, 2023.
