COMMISSION FOR UNIVERSITY EDUCATION CONCLUDES SITE INSPECTION OF PROGRAMMES FOR ACCREDITATION

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has today concluded the three-day site inspection of Karatina University for programme accreditation. The exercise which started on Wednesday, 14th June 2023 has seen eight (8) programmes evaluated. These are:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science
  • Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine
  • Bachelor of Science in Animal Science
  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management
  • Bachelor of Science in Health Systems Management
  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics with Informatics

The evaluation was conducted in line with the Universities Act 2012, the revised University Regulations 2023, CUE Regulations and Standards for University Education among others. Using the peer review system, with experts from other universities within the country, CUE inspected resources on the ground, relevant facilities, MoUs with other institutions, information resources in the Library both print and e-resources, research, publications, human resource as well as curriculum development and review. The inspection was also largely reliant on evidence provided by the University on all these parameters. Majority of the programmes met the minimum thresholds for recommendation for approval.

Standing in for the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Linus Muthuri Gitonga, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs), Dr. Hellen Kamiri thanked the Commission for University Education for the verdict on each of the evaluated courses. She stated that the University will give feedback based on the issues raised in the exit report.
