KARATINA UNIVERSITY HOSTS SCIENTISTS FROM NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY NEWSCASTLE, UK

This week, Karatina University hosted researchers Dr. Katherine Baldock and Dr. Matthew Pound from the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Northumbria University, UK. They were received by the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs) Prof.  Hellen Kamiri, Dr. Flora Namu and researchers from the School of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies.  The team discussed ongoing collaborative research on plant-pollinator interactions in urban landscapes following pilot studies funded by a QR Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) grant awarded by Northumbria University to initiate research in Sub-Saharan African cities. Collaborative partners include the National Museums of Kenya, Kenyatta University and Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. Areas of mutual interest for upscaling and capacity building, especially support to postgraduate students, were also discussed.
